The first Young Eagles Rally at Dean Memorial Airport began in 1997 on May 31, at the first Dean Memorial Airport Awareness Day; the first event like this in the 35 year history of the airport. Four EAA pilots flew 46 youngsters to become "Young Eagles". Since then, over 700 youngsters have become a Young Eagle at Dean Memorial Airport. The event was, and continues, to be sponsored by EAA, the Haverhill Airport Commission, and Town of Haverhill.
