Members of the Haverhill Area Senior Services Advisory Council raised more than $180,000 in additional funds from private contributors in order to purchase the land and furnish and equip the new building, named Horse Meadow Senior Center in recognition of its historic location on Horse Meadow Road in No. Haverhill. | |

....Those who live in the area surrounding Horse Meadow Senior Center have embraced the new building as a true community center, and the facility is heavily used every weekday (and occasionally on the weekends as well). The Horse Meadow Senior Center Advisory Council continues to work on ways to ensure that the building meets community needs and the group of volunteers is considering ways of further developing the center and its surroundings. Horse Meadow Senior Center is a program of Grafton County Senior Citizens Council, Inc. (GCSCC) a private nonprofit organization that serves older and disabled adults throughout the region. GCSCC receives a combination of public and private funds to support its community based programs. The council operates eight senior centers and the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program of the Upper Valley and White Mountains (RSVP). | |||||

....Social worker's assistance for individuals, their families and- friends concerned about them. Horse Meadow Senior Center's social worker helps community members in several ways:
Activities including special educational and informational programs on such topics as health concerns, financial planning, insurance, legal assistance; regular health clinics for foot care and blood pressure checks; strength training classes in the exercise room; and support groups. The center has both an organ and a piano in the dining room, and music is an integral part of the program almost every day. Computer Education is also available at the Horse Meadow Senior Center Computer Lab. You can learn the basics of a computer, computer maintenance, the Internet, viruses and protection, digital photography, word processing, spreadsheets, databases, Powerpoint, desk top publishing, and burning CDs. ....The center also includes facilities for participants to enjoy individually or in groups: an exercise room with equipment; a library; a crafts room; and areas for games, with bingo, cribbage, bridge, bid whist, puzzles, shuffleboard and pool available. ....Participants are invited to make a contribution, but no one is turned away from the center or its services if they are unable to make the recommended donation. ....RSVP is a program for seniors to help seniors. Some volunteers are trained to call folks in the morning to check on how they are doing. Other programs include teaching inmates decision making skills, helping neighbors with small repairs, keeping neighbors' home and property safe, keeping osteoporosis at bay and bone loss prevention and learning to help yourself and others to prepare for unexpected events.
